Reviews of Fisher-Price Corn Popper Push Toy

1.) noisy fun!

We purchased this toy for our son when he was learning to walk (at 9 months of age) and now he's 15 months old and still loves it. It's his favorite toy of all. He pushes it, pulls it, bangs the floor with it, chases the cats with it, gives it to me to push while he watches the "popcorn" pop and even this morning he was sliding it on the dome instead of on it's wheels. YES, it is noisy and it's not fun to have in the background while trying to talk on the phone, but it keeps a busy toddler happy! I wouldn't recommend it as a "learning to walk" toy because it's not 100% stable but for someone who is stable already, I'd highly recommend it!

I bought this for my son when he was 11 months old. He was already walking VERY well and he absolutely *LOVES* this toy! (I would not recommend this to a toddler just learning to walk.)This toy has different colored balls inside and the balls *POP* as the toy gets rolled along the floor. I don't know what it is about this little toy, but he plays with this ALL THE TIME! After reading other reviews, my son never "swings" this toy! He thinks of it more like a vacuum because he sees mommy vacuuming all the time. And some of the reviewers wrote that their children run over their toes??? This is a very lightweight toy. If my son does run into something he simply backs up and goes another way. In that way it is a pretty educational toy that will teach cause and effect. OVERALL - Very Good Toy at Very Nice Price! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I just had to write a review after the negative comments I've read. Yes, it can be noisy (but if he's having fun, I'm happy). Yes, a child could run over your feet with it (my son did until we told him it hurt and wasn't nice). However, of all the toys my son has received, this is one he keeps going back to. It was a Christmas gift when he turned one and as soon as he perfected walking, the popper quickly became his favorite toy. He pretended it was a vaccum cleaner (complete with his own sound effects). And more recently it became a weed wacker (again with sound effects). He really uses his imagination with it. He's now 2 and he still takes it out to do a little poppin'. I believe as long as they are having fun and its safe - go with it! Also, it's inexpensive enough that if your child isn't thrilled with it, at least its not a big investment.

I look for toys that grow with my child, encourage creativity and are versatile. I prefer toys that are fairly quiet, easy to use and lots of fun. I want a toy that has more than one button to push.

Let me stress that this is not a quiet toy!

However, all the other expectations in a toy are met through this toy. The child can be as imaginative and creative as he/she wants with this toy. This has been a popcorn machine, a part of our family band, a vacuum cleaner and more. My son who is two still wants to play with it.

This is not a walker- in other words, it is not to help your child walk, this is a toy for playing with while you walk.

Very fun.

THE TOY HAS AN EASY GRASP HANDLE FOR TODDLERS TO HOLD AS THEY PUSH ALONG. THE BALLS POP CONSTANTLY,WHICH KEEPS TODDLERS THRILLED AND INTERESTED. THE BALLS ARE A DIFFERENT COLOR WHICH IS FUN FOR KIDS TO WATCH TOO. THE "GLOBE" MAY DISCOLOR WITH AGE, BUT IT WILL POP FOREVER. THIS IS A GIFT I BUY FOR ALL SMALL CHILDREN. IT IS THE 'COOLEST', MOST DURABLE TOY I HAVE EVER SEEN.

I just gave this toy to my 1 year old daughter. I was going to save it for Christmas but I'm glad I didn't wait. This toy makes my daughter giggle like no other toy. Plus, she's just learning to walk and it has encouraged her to walk more. We also chase her around with it - making her belly laugh all over the house. Her 16 month old friend loves it too. My mother discouraged me from buying her such a 'noisey' toy. But when the popping brings so much joy and baby laughter to our home, how could we not get it for her?? It's FANTASTIC!

This is such a great little push toy! I have 3 daughters and they have all loved it! We have the older version which has a wooden handle instead of the newer plastic one. Personally, I think that it is easier for chubby fingers to grasp a hold on then the new one--hence the term "If it aint broke, don't fix it" My girls have gotten hours of fun out of this popper and my 14 mo. old loves to chase her older sister's with it! There is only one less than positive thing I can say about it! It is N~O~I~S~Y!! But hey if you have kids, you are already used to the noise, right? Fisher Price makes the BEST toys!!

A classic and wonderful "gift" for the OTHER kids!!

Hamilton from "Maggie and the Ferocious Beast" calls this toy his push-me-popper. My three-year-old loves it, and so does her 18-month-old brother, who likes to "vaccuum" the floor with it. He's getting one of his own for Christmas. For those who complain of the noise, there are many toys out there which produce more annoying sounds. My son tends to find the most horrible noise an electronic toy can produce and push that button until his sister lobs a stuffed toy at him. I'll take the popping balls over a police siren/fire truck/honking horn any day.

Seriously, though, we set aside quiet time in the evenings for the family, and the noisier toys are put away. Mornings are the rowdiest time in our household, and we try to wind things down when bedtime approaches so it's easier for the little ones to settle down to sleep.

Okay, I'm being silly, but this toy is a classic, and it has stuck around for good reason. Kids love it. They push, pull, and drag it around while the little balls inside pop noisily. My now 20 month old son received this as a gift on his first birthday. He played with it more often than he did with most of his other toys. He had been walking for a few months, so it wasn't much of a helpful tool, but it was fun. Then one day (about 3 months later) his babysitters played a game with him where they chased him around the apartment with it. He had so much fun that from that point on he almost never put it down. Normally I would say that the sounds wouldn't bother me. However, he ran with it so fast and constant that it was enough to trigger a headache, and it drove my husband nuts. It was worth it though. He loved it so much. About four or five months after he received it, however, the spring that made it pop actually popped up into the clear bubble and didn't work anymore. We took it apart to see if we could fix it, but there was a bar inside that had broken in half. It couldn't be fixed. I know he used it all the time and ran fast, but I really thought it was indestructable until that day. He doesn't run around with it now, but he is still attached to it somehow. If he spots it he will take it and push it around, for a few seconds, until he remembers that it doesn't make noise any more. Then he'll set it down, and when we leave the room he'll make sure to take it with him again. (It's kind of sad, actually.) All in all though, I recommend this product. I just hope yours doesn't break! (It sounds like most of them last. We must have been the exception, having one that broke.)

Case in point:
Based on my experience, this is a fun, entertaining toy for babies/toddlers who recently learned how to walk. ...Just be prepared for the popping sound (which is very loud if run with but otherwise fine), and hope yours doesn't break.

...As far as educational value goes, it can be a teaching tool for words like fast, slow, quiet, loud, go, stop, etc. It's all about how you choose to use it. :)

Boy, having kids sure is great, if for no other reason than to revisit all the cool toys of our own youth.

This is definitely one of those toys. It's inexpensive, indestructible, and simply fun. We fling this corn popper in the bottom of the buggy and it travels to the park with us every day, where it's a hit with all the local kids. My son HAS tried to swing this toy around, but after a few times of "losing" the honor of playing with it, has since learned that it's meant only for rolling on the floor.

I too would recommend your little one be a fairly stable walker before unleashing them with this toy; however, even the almost walkers, crawlers and sitters would enjoy pushing and pulling it back and forth from a bottom-only position! It's quite a noisy toy, which is why ours is relegated mostly for outdoor use only, but it's a great classic and one that I'm very glad is still around.

We've even left it outside in the rain, the sun, you name it; it's still as bright, colorful and loud as ever.

What more could you ask for with an eleven-buck investment? Highly recommended toy.

I don't know what it is, but kids love these: my daughter, her cousins, parents, etc. (I also like that it stores standing up; just tip it forward a little until the front rests on the floor.) There isn't much to say except that its a simply fun and well liked toy.

This is one of the few toys, it seems, which has remained fundamentally unchanged since we were children. The push-stick is shaped a little differently (I remember a thin blue broom stick with an orange or red handle) but otherwise, it is the same. No electronic sounds or flashing lights have been added - although you can get it that way, too, if you want. Personally I think these things detract from the imagination building aspects of certain toys. I'm not saying we have no talking or musical or flashing toys, but it dismays me when these things are added to the classics (think Little People farm etc).

What I love about this toy is it can be ANYTHING. It's a sweeper! It's a carpet cleaner! It's a mop! It never fails to crack me up when my son comes running after me with his corn popper when I am cleaning. It's a lawnmower! So many jobs around the house or yard can be copied with the corn popper. And if mom or dad isn't up to much, it's still great fun to run around with which means exercise for the kiddies. It's a solo toy and a playing-with-other-kids toy. Any time we have other children over to play, the corn popper comes out as they chase each other about the house.

We got this toy when my son was 13 months. He is now 3y4m and still playing with this toy. I have seen 5 and 6 year olds still playing with the corn popper. There are few toys that are so simple and yet offer so much fun. Sturdy, too - very important as it's bound to be crashed into a few walls. I can't think of another toy which will give you more bang for your buck - unless you count dirt and measuring spoons and all those other free things that kids so exasperatingly pick over the toys you paid good money for.

I am a little alarmed at the current PRICE listed for this toy, though. You should not need to pay that much for it. Occasionally this item becomes hard to find - especially at Christmas - but usually there are tons of them in the stores for around the cost of a President Hamilton. Right now this is listed for twice that.

We were offered this popper as a hand-me-down toy. Since it was a bit worse for wear, I was prepared to turn up my nose at it. Luckily, my mom was there and she encouraged me to take it, saying I had *loved* my popper when I was little. All I can say is, thank goodness I listened to her. My 15 month-old son LOVES this. And has since he was 8 months old. It's better now that he's walking (running) with it, but even when he was just sitting he was thrilled to push it back and forth. And yes, he even drags it around on its dome like so many other reviewers' kids. Go figure. All I know is, it holds his attention and he's so happy to have it!

We recently bought several new toys for our 1 year old and this is by far his favorite! He loves to push and pull it while sitting, standing, and attempting to walk behind it. He feels "big" knowing he is making those popping sounds all by himself. He is so proud of himself!! I almost didn't get this toy because I thought it was old fashioned, but to my surprise he tired quickly of the newer more expensive toys and has stuck to this one. I smile when I think of all the laughs and squeals this toy has given him. Great toy!!!

Two older siblings who've moved on to more sophisticated (and expensive) toys still come back to the popper, either as part of some other play activity or simply to annoy us when we're on the phone.

It's a rare pleasure to see something simple that works and that hasn't been tinkered with. Now, if Mattel would just bring back the "Va-room".

This toddler toy is a classic for good reason! My son is currently 16 months old, and this is definitely one of his favorite toys that he seeks out to play with numerous times a day. He loves the sound of the popping and the feel of the wheels as he rolls it over different floor textures such as hardwood floors, carpet, linoleum, tile, deck boards, etc. Also, he gets excited by the neat echo effect from the popping that he occasionally gets while pushing it in a small bathroom, our enclosed porch, or at the top of the stair well.

My son has plenty of toys with music and lights, yet this simple push toy sees more action in our house than anything else. (By the way, I found it for half this price at one of the popular national-chain toy stores.) For this reason, I think the simpler, old-fashioned version without electronic counting and lights is the better version. Within a couple of weeks he had mastered pushing the toy around all by himself. And, unlike his other birthday presents, he still wants to play with this every day.

I think the toy reminds him of the vacuum. Now, whenever he sees my husband vacuuming, he thinks that the vacuum is also a toy and wants to help push that around too!

My husband remembers his own corn popper and loves that our son now has the same toy. I love that we found a toy without all the bells and whistles (and expense) that still entertains. Who knows, maybe someday we'll be buying one for our grandchild.

I am a mother of two very active boys. When my 6-year-old was about a year old; I had bought this for him, what a hit! He used this toy as much as he wanted to & EVERY TIME I vacuumed the house. Now, his little brother is following in his footsteps. I never held them back from this toy, due to MY likening the noise or not! Hey, let's face it, there are a lot of noises little people would love to complain about that us adults make, daily! And more often than not the noises that we make are not as educational as this toy is! I know this toy is wonderful for they have the power to make noise when THEY want or need it. And this toy is safe to fill that need. We have animals that were not even close to being targets from this toy (or any other). It's all in how you teach your children. (Your children learn from you.) Our two boys have been taught since they could understand; "you do onto others, as you would like done onto you!" (Plus, a little responsibility on how to take care of the toys.) I know we made a game out of counting the (colored) balls, and moving it slowly to "see & hear" what that was like. Let's not forget they need to be active with this toy so, I found/find it's ALSO great for those times they need to get out of grumpy moods. Needing to have that deep pressure filled. Meaning, to run and act silly. How wonderful it would be for us adults to let off a "little steam" with a bigger version. The little version works for now. Sounds nutty, but that's the point. If some parents let children be children with this toy, they might be surprised to learn something about how they are at "Teaching!" Hopefully, they will see the world THROUGH a Childs eye again, wouldn't that be nice?

This toy is an old classic that has held on through the years because it's plain, simple fun that still appeals to toddlers and preschoolers of the Barney generation. For imaginative toddlers and preschoolers who want to "be like mom and dad" it can be a vacuum cleaner, a lawn mower, and other grown-up toys. My toddler's eyes light up when she hears the popping noise. Yes, it's a bit loud, but it's nostalgic for me and I know she's having a good time.

Unlike some other push toys, this one requires a toddler to be somewhat steady on his or her feet because there's nothing to lean on. For this reason, this is a slightly later push toy than some of the others that have four wheels (for a good stable early push toy, try the VTech Little Smart First Steps Plus - it's very stable and solid and will give your little one something to lean on as he or she is taking those early steps).

This toy can be either pushed or pulled. It does require that the child keep the handle in the proper angle. There is a fairly wide range of angles that work, but if the handle gets too vertical (straight up and down) the toy has a tendency to start going backwards into the child, which may send the child over the top of the popper onto the ground. This was only a problem for my daughter early on as she was learning to use this toy, but it's something to watch for when an early walker starts using it.

Overall a great toy and a classic!

The "popper" is an excellent toy for beginning walkers because it gives them the security of holding on to the handle while taking those risky first steps. Also, unlike pull toys, the child can actually see the toy they are using. With some encouragement, young users delight in repeating the "pop pop" sound made by the toy. This is a great first step in language learning. Following directions such as "stop" and "go" also become fun with this toy. I consider this toy a "must-have" basic toy for toddlers.

One-year-old twins loved watching and hearing the corn pop! I'm sure they'll be more interested in pushing it once they can walk for longer periods of time. The walking encouragement is what makes this educational for younger kids, but not for toddlers. It's still a fun toy that encourages being active and independent.

The rule is outside only. It had been outside many of seasons and losted in the garage a few more. I will be looking for it in my garage to clean up for my youngest.

I remember having a Corn Popper when I was little, and my husband does too. What we didn't recall when we purchased it for our son was how incredibly LOUD and ANNOYING it is when you're not the one playing with it.

When our son was first learning to walk it was a really neat incentive for him -- to push it and see/hear the balls popping. Then it was to run and make the balls pop faster, and faster, and faster, and - you get the point. Now, because the toy is so lightweight, he can lift it in the air and sometimes slams it down on a table or sofa. Boys will be boys (as they say) so I've decided it's time to pass it along to someone else (donation).

I know he had a good time playing with it, but he's had more fun with other toys. Let's just say our next child won't be "popping corn".

This was my favorite toy as a child. 30 something years ago. My 18 year old daughter and her 8 year old sister both had one and my son (now 16 months) and my grandaughter both have them now. The Popper may not be much on educational but not all toys have to teach something some of them can actually be just plain fun to play with. An unmentioned extra is that if you have a child who lives with an ex-??? you can't beat the noise annoyance factor. LOLOLOLOL

My son received this as a gift when he was almost 10 months old, and even before he was walking, he loved to push it back and forth on the floor to make the popping noise. Now that he is nearly 14 months old, he loves to push or pull it all over the place. Most of the time, the noise isn't so annoying, but we have had to put it away at times because it's impossible to hear anything over the popping (and it certainly does nothing to help a headache!).

I rated this toy 3 stars for fun because the noise can sometimes be too much, but my son would probably rate it 5 stars!

I bought this for my son when he started walking, and learned quickly that I needed to take it away and wait for him to walk better before he could use it. When I did give it back to him at 14 months, he really had no interest in it. I bought this because I remember having one when I was little.

135.) Know Thy Child before considering this toy !

This toy gets more "time outs" than any other toy in the house mainly because our rowdy little toddler likes to swing it around like a baseball bat and aim it at furniture, walls and even unsuspecting friends. Also, it is very noisy and usually is the toy of choice when Mommy or Daddy are talking to their boss on the telephone. So, I cannot recommend this toy to those families with little tornado toddlers like ours, but I am sure other children will have hours of fun with it - as I did as a calm little toddler once myself.

Something like water torcher but much worse. Of course kids bring along their own form of loudness, but this toy is just senseless, non educational, obnoxious noise. These poppers are notourious for ending up looking scratched on the clear plastic cover, but only after lots of use. Well mine looks like it's been used for years. Features of Fisher-Price Corn Popper Push Toy

12 months & up. Popping with colorful balls to entertain and encourage walking, as well as counting and visual tracking. Helps little ones learn numbers and counting skills. Push it along for sounds and lights, as the colorful balls pop inside the plastic dome. Requires 3 AA batteries (not included) for sounds and lights.

This is probably the first toy that (no pun intended) pops into your mind when you hear the name Fisher-Price. Maybe this will jar your memory: the Push Toy Corn Popper has a long, blue handle (well, "long" if you're 3 years old), and rolls along on two brightly colored red/orange wheels while making great popping sounds as it bounces brightly colored balls inside a clear plastic bubble that's mounted above the wheels. So much for the technical specifications. There must be some unwritten law that every toddler has to have one of these. And with good reason. They're still fun! --Chris Livesay
