LEGO Architecture Fallingwater (21005)
Reviews of LEGO Architecture Fallingwater (21005)
1.) Less of a toy, more of a Lego showpiece

First things first, this isn't really a "traditional" Lego set: while all the pieces are things you'd recognize from 25 years ago, the set is clearly aimed at a much older audience. The box even states its recommended for 16+. I'm 30, a big fan of architecture and I've always enjoyed Legos (but hadn't bought a set in over a decade), so when I heard this set had been created I leaped at the chance to place it in my new home. I'm not disappointed.
When constructed, the structure isn't big: the base measures 10" x 5" and its 4.5" high, but its quite complex (more complex than the sets I remember as a kid) and feels substantial when completed. There are well over 800 pieces and approximately 100 pages of instructions. The instruction book also includes a few short essays on Frank Lloyd Wright and Fallingwater. The assembly instructions are well done and putting it together took several hours but no confusion.
You can't tell by looking at it, but the structure is actually designed to come apart: the house is in several pieces that stack on top of each other and then slide into the base; this ability to do a blow-up diagram lets you examine some of the forms that were used in the structure. Of course, you can't expect this set to be a very precise reproduction of the actual landmark, but it definitely captures its essence.
The set uses only a handful of colors that seem inspired by the colors Wright would use in some of his sketches --it gives the completed piece a very mature look. Once it was done I placed it on a shelf next to various books on architecture and modern sculptures. This is a very substantial piece when fully constructed, and if it got your attention like it did mine, I think you'll be satisfied with it.
2.) Solid, well designed model.

Received as a present for my 30th birthday. I had a blast constructing this model. There is nothing more satisfying than opening each one of those little plastic bags of parts and starting to build.
The design of the model is nice because of the removable sections. A lot of thought was put into the design of this model.
I also love all of the tan, green and clear pieces.
Set is expensive, but for someone like me who loves architecture (especially FLW) and LEGO, this is a win-win.
One design feature I dislike: the bridge over the creek seems to be too high. There is a two plate step-up that isn't consistent with the rest of the model. I will be modifying the model to make the bridge more flush with the rest of the model.
3.) Great fun for FLW Fans

With over 800 pieces, this Lego set is great fun to put together. This is the first of three Lego Architecture set I've gotten this year - and it was by far the most fun to put together - plus it looks great. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes Lego and Frank Lloyd Wright. The Guggenheim Lego set is also fun, but it took a fraction of the time to finish. As far as missing pieces go, that wasn't a problem. Plus you can get replacement pieces from Lego through their website.
4.) Falling Water Love Affair

This LEGO set of the Falling Water home was for my Brother, an Architectural Engineer and long-time FLW fan. He has visited Falling Water on more than one occasion and when I saw the LEGO set I knew he would love it. As things worked out he called 8PM Saturday night and, as he would be travelling over Christmas, we agreed that he should open it immediately. He was thrilled and even though he was going to catch a 5AM flight the next morning he said he wasn't going to bed until Falling Water was built!

I got this for my dad because he's a huge fan of FLW. He put it together and brought it over to show us and it looks just so cool. I highly recommend it, the size if perfect and it comes apart at the different levels to show the floors!

7.) Fallingwater LEGO set is awesome!

This is one of the heftier sets in the LEGO architecture series, and took a few hours to put together. It offers a great glimpse at one of FLW's masterpieces, both in the bricks themselves and with an accompanying booklet.
8.) Great toy for an older child or adult

This was a Father's Day gift for my husband. He loves architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright and Legos, so it was the perfect combination. He loved the set, and we had fun putting it together. However, I was surprised at how small the end structure is. The size is in the description, but it still is quite small when all assembled. It's hard to believe so many pieces can go into such a small building. Regardless, it's a nice set to have and we look forward to buying other sets from this collection of Legos.
9.) Pretty Pretty

This was a Christmas gift for my architect husband. He loved it. The packaging is gorgeous (the instruction book is particularly impressive), and the building process is tricky and satisfying for an adult. This is definitely not a kid's toy.
10.) Architectural Display

Great architectural item for display. Loved using Legos as a child and liked putting this display together. I would not call this a toy, it is more of a display. Once you put this together you are not likely to take apart and rebuild.

While it is a Lego set, it is not a toy. My 14 year old son is interested in architecture and bought Fallingwater as a visual display for a school project about Frank Lloyd Wright. He put it together in about two hours, and loves it. Scored high on his report and received great comments on the Lego set.

I had fun putting this set together. If you are careful, it should be rather easy putting the house together; just pay attention to the step by step directions. It took apprx. 2 hrs. to complete. I have to say, the set is a lot smaller than I expected..but all in all.. I love legos and I love architecture, so this was the perfect toy for me.

18.) Reasonably realistic, but smaller than expected

I purchased this piece through Amazon in Aug 2010 because I had recently learned of Lego Architecture series and have an interest in unique architecture, including Frank Lloyd Wright. I thought, with 800+ pieces, that the size of this build would be slightly more substantial, but it's rather small. Many of the pieces are small pieces that you build up, layer by layer. Overall, I think LEGO did a good depiction of the original Falling Water house, but would have loved it if it was slightly larger in scale.
19.) A great set, but missing pieces

We visited Falling Water while on vacation. We bought this set for my 8 year old as a special Christmas Present. He loves Legos, maybe all 8 year olds do. He was able to put it together without problems up until a certain point where we discovered that there were missing pieces. This seems to only happen to us when we buy $100+ lego sets, the cheaper sets have never been a problem. I am sure if we call Lego they will send the missing parts no problem, but it is upsetting to have a child very excited about putting this together and it all has to come to a hault when pieces are missing. Kid get very focused and excited while building. This is the second time this has happened to us with expensive Lego sets. Overall, it is a fabulous creation, and the educational value can't be beat. This set is for older children, but my 8 year old had no trouble, and it was a nice challenge.
20.) Falling Water

It is a good educational toy in following directions, and putting directions into action. The negatives are more than the positives:
1. It is way over priced, not worth the price.
2. It is much smaller than expected.
3. The minimum age on the box is a joke, a ten year old did it in a few hours.
In summary, don't waste money on this product and be careful of the others in this product line.
