My 14-month-old loves these Duplo blocks. Me too, for that matter. We can sit and build stuff for 30-40 minutes at a time, which is a remarkable feat of focus for him. The colors are great, the blocks are big enough to be safe and manageable in his little hands. I look forward to this being the starting point of a lifelong love of Legos for him (just like his papa!)

We had a really difficult time finding a decent starter set of Duplo bricks. They just don't sell the simple sets in the stores anymore, which makes no sense because they are the BEST sets. So we ordered this set from Lego. For about half what they're asking here. I've noticed a trend of Lego having the fairest prices of all the stores selling their products. Odd. Anyway, for anything Lego, I would definitely do some comparison shopping using the company website first.

With this set, I was concerned beforehand that there might not be a wide enough variety of pieces, despite the generous number (80 pieces total). This was due in great part to the fact that I couldn't seem to find any photos of the side of the box where they give the detailed information and really this is the only information you're wanting before making a rather sizable Lego purchase, right? Since no one else has mentioned this, I'll show what a total geek I am by publishing these details.

Here's the breakdown of the pieces by size:

56 2x2 peg square pieces
20 2x4 peg rectangular pieces
2 2x4 peg pieces (1/2 thickness of regular pieces)
1 2x6 peg long rectangular piece
1 2x8 peg ex-long rectangular piece

And by color!

14 red
13 each of green and yellow
12 blue
8 each of light green and orange
5 each of black and white
2 transparent blue 2x2 peg pieces

The transparent pieces were an immediate source of tension between my two daughters; they both love them. The entire set is fantastic. It's just the right amount of pieces, and I didn't feel like Lego was as stingy with the rectangles as in the previous 'My First Lego Set' we'd bought. Or maybe it's just that we now finally have enough Legos to really build something! I do wish there had been a couple more large rectangles, and maybe a couple more transparent pieces, but that's not really a gripe.

I think if you're starting out with Duplos, there isn't a better set out there with the right amount of creative, open-ended pieces and affordability. We would have started with this one had it been sold in stores. Another point in its favor, at least as far as I'm concerned, is that it was not made in China or Mexico, but rather in Denmark, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

I bought this for my (2 yr. old) Grandaughter's birthday as an addition to "Ultimate Lego Duplo Building Set" & "Dora's Backyard Surprise". She absolutely loves the set & has played with it for hours.....everyday, since her birthday in February.
It's wonderful to watch the progress of building skills & observe the idea's of the little ones working with utilizing color, strategy & weight.
This is a definite "need to buy" item if you are purchasing the "ULTIMATE LEGO DUPLO SET". Both sets will fit in the Ultimate Lego Duplo Hardcase & are excellent additions to other sets like......Dora's Backyard Surprise.
I think you & your little one will find this item worth the $$.

5.) How could you not love Duplo's?

When my son turned 2 we bought the starter bin of duplos at Toys R Us. After attempting to build "bigger, bigger, bigger" castles, pyramids and towers, I decided we needed more blocks. After comparison shopping at Toys R Us and Target, I purchased the box of Basic Bricks from Amazon.
These have been a great addition. My son loves to build the simple houses, trucks, trees and boats depicted on the box to make a city.

7.) Best Christmas gift

My 3 year old grand daughter received seveal gifts for Christmas. This is the only one she wanted to play with. She started building right away and didn't want to finish opening her other presents. They kept her busy for several hours through out the day. We like the fact that the blocks are bigger and easy for her to use.

We had gotten our son a started kit of duploxs,a larger green plastic tub. The legos in this box filled up the tub perfectly! I feel like we have the perfect amount now.

My daughter suggested I get Legos for the youngest for christmas;
these were the basic blocks she could use, yet the other children
could use them too. They are large, colorful and wonderful. They
arrived quickly through the mail, and in great shape.

Had to buy for 2 girls and to make sure they didn't fight I bought them both a set of Lego Bricks. They love to put them together and play for hours. Well worth what I paid.

My son got three sets of these for his third birthday. Added to his previous Duplo collection, he can now build almost anything. They're a great toy that requires imagination, not batteries.

I forgot how fun these were! This incredible large set is perfect for the first time builder, and my two-year-old cannot get enough. The first thing she made was a stick, then she brought me, no lie, a turtle! Complete with head, tail and domed shell. She loves that she gets rewarded by opening up yet another bag of new blocks. The price is comparable to larger retailers, but not the quantity. Definitely going to buy more when the little engineer requires more!

My daughter received these blocks when she was 2, and she loves to play with them! They are one of her favorite toys, she can really let her imagination soar when building. And the whole family can join in and help her build too. We are planning to get her more blocks, because she wants to build more and more things. These are a an excellent starter set, and just a terrific item to give as a gift!

14.) Expensive, but the children love it

We bought this set to augment our Deplo Ultimate (green bucket) set and it tops the set up perfectly - they were meant to go tother in the same bucket, I think. Now the bucket is full, our toddler's forts are that much larger, and hopefully we won't need to buy any more anytime in the near future!

These blocks are also a great creative outlet for an adult trapped in a gray cubicle.

This package has: red, yellow, green, blue, orange, black, and white bricks (versus the "my first" Lego Duplo set with: red, yellow, green, blue, orange, and light blue). This set is good for adding onto other sets, but there are no special pieces (ex: flower, cat, arch, etc).

I got this for my daughter as part of the big red guy gifts for Christmas and she seems to enjoy it but it is not her favorite toy. She is having a hard time trying to put the legos together on her own which is frustrating her. She does not have a problem dumping the whole box out on the floor and breaking your creation apart though. I think it's a great way to help learn colors and I'm sure within a couple of weeks she will have them figured out. I love it that as a 13 month old she can play with Legos and be safe. They are large enough that I do not feel like she is going to be able to swallow one and start choking on it. Now if they had the same set in pink princessy colors that would be awesome.

You can't go wrong with Legos, they are fun and educational. This basic set is great to have as a starter set or to add to additional sets. There are enough blocks to build all kinds of things with this set.

I got this set of Duplos for my baby nephew for Christmas. It's got a good assortment of bricks, including plenty of 2x4 and 2x2's, plus a few longer ones. It's a good first set of Duplos, and while you won't be able to make anything too fancy there's enough to make some basic things. I had both Duplos and Legos as a kid and they're still some of the best "toys" I've ever had. And if you didn't know, Legos and Duplos can actually work together; they're all accurately scaled. That way your child can move up to Legos and still incorporate the larger Duplo bricks for some really ambitious creations.

Santa brought these to my 15 month old for Christmas and he loves them! The larger size is easy for him to grip. It is teaching him fine motor skills - how to put things together and take them apart. Great toy!

I got these for my 4 year old son along with one of the starter building sets. I'm very glad I did because it was not near enough blocks. It was so discouraging to watch him build things with Megablocks and it would take nothing at all before it toppled and came apart so easily.
These are just the right size for little hands. We both have so much fun together building with these. Only one problem, we still need more.

Nothing fancy, but exactly what you'd expect. Tons of duplo bricks in all colors and sizes. My 2-year-old plays with them for hours, and his 6-year-old sister has tons of fun watching. She has now added legos to her birthday wish list after playing with the duplos. We bought this set to accompany one of the starter sets, knowing that they have fewer blocks but are great for storage.

My 20 month old grandson, daughter and I love playing with the blocks. More blocks means more fun getting the toddler into building things. They are a safe size as he is still putting things in his mouth. They are also easy for him to stack and pull apart.

Duplo blocks have been a favorite of our family for three decades. Our own children enjoyed playing with them so much that I couldn't wait to purchase a set for our little granddaughter. The updated colors (lime green, orange, white, and grass green) are wonderful and the clear blue blocks add to the imaginative possibilities. This basic set of Duplo blocks was offered at a good price. The tubs of blocks are convenient, but you get far fewer bricks for your money. I look forward to purchasing additional Duplo sets in the future to expand the creative options to include animals, "people", and other realistic shapes.

decent amount of legos in the box, good sturdy box, comes with one car and one little person. Would be nice if it came with more people, but other than that it's great. our toddler is learning how to manipulate things now and just honing her fine motor skills, so these are helpful. I bought the world lego people to go with it and she loves them even more.

My 2 year old daughter loves blocks and these are her favorites. Compared to other blocks they are a little expensive but are of great quality. As compared to other blocks, they occupy less space and are neat.

33.) Not Standard Lego's

These would be great for kids age 1 1/2 to 2 1/2, but I bought these for my 3 1/2 year old son who has been asking me for some Lego's and I was disappointed when I opened the box. No where in the product description does it tell you these are not standard size normal Lego's. I bought this set to add on to some other Lego sets I also bought and when I opened the box I see these are useless for this purpose. These are not compatible with the standard Lego's we've all come to know, they are like 4 times the size of basic Lego's. Something in the product description should have specified this! Would it be that hard to add into the product description that these are LARGE Lego's?

The blocks are flimsy and fall apart just after a few uses. Nothing yo builds holds. I would not recommend this toy to anyone, it's just wasted money.
