We bought the Cozy Coupe for our grandaughters 2nd birthday. It arrived the day of her party so we didn't have time to put it together before giving it to her. No problem for Alivea....she got so excited when she saw the box....the adventure began! My son-inlaw was removing the pieces from the box and Alivea was already finding ways to play with them. After just a few minutes when the car was taking shape, Alivea was already setting in it. We had to remove her so her Dad could finish assembling the car with the help of his brother. The next morning, my daughter (Alivea's Mom) told me that Alivea had to eat her breakfast in the car. The Cozy Coupe is a great value for the money! Very easy to assemble, extremely durable and just loads of fun to ride in and go! We highly reccommend the Little Tykes Cozy Coupe.

We just received this adorable little car for our baby's 1st birthday. We were nervous to embark on putting it together after reading all of the horror stories. My husband and I are not the most handy but we really had a fairly easy time putting the car together. I STRONGLY recommend using the assembly video online instead of the paper instructions. I watched it once before we started and then watched/paused as we went along step by step. We only had a little trouble screwing on the roof--be sure to start the screws early as advised by a 'tip' in the video. Really helps to use a drill or electric screwdriver for this part. Another little tip from me: I took all the small parts and laid them out in the box they came in and used a sharpie to label the part's letter--made it easy to grab the one you needed as you go. Othwerise, our baby is LOVING his new car and we are very pleased with our purchase.

I was worried when I read all the reviews about a difficult assembly. When we actually assembled it, it went fairly quickly and easily. It certainly didn't take two hours. I can only assume that the other folks are not "assembly types". The 18 month old boy loves it. He actually sits in while watching TV. Anything that pleases a toddler this much is just plain luck. I read some of the complaints about putting this car together, I've put together most of my children's toys and baby gear with little help from my husband. I had no problem putting this toy together. It went from the box to cruising the roads in 30 minutes flat. My 2yo daughter and 1yo son LOVE this car. We're getting ready to buy another one to cut down on the fighting. One great thing about the Cozy Coupe is that it can be played with outside for those nice days, and brought indoors for the cold or rainy days.

I wouldn't say the Cozy Coupe is an educational toy, but it is classic fun. I really like the floor board for my grandson (1 yr) who does not yet walk. We can push him around without worrying about his feet. When he learns to walk, we'll take it out and he can self-propel like Fred Flintstone. It comes unassembled, so get out your rubber hammer and your screw driver! My husband had no trouble with it, but he is very handy around the house.

I purchased the Fisher Price instead and that one is terrible. There is no knee room while the Little Tikes has pleanty. If we got this earlier I don't think they would have been as creative with such lasting fun. They strap luggage to the top, portable dvd player to the back, they love it and have great fun. Yes, assembly of this item was a complete pain in the butt. It was two hours of my life that were full of frustration. However I would give that two hours time and time again for the amount of happiness and fun that my child gets out of the cozy coupe. He is only a year old and can't even use it yet without the floorboard, but still he loves this car so much it's insane. I push him around the house in it, or around the neighborhood, or he'll just sit in it stationary playing with the steering wheel and keys, and no matter how long it's been he cries when I take him out. He just loves this toy so much, I can't even imagine how much fun it will give him for the next several years!

The only bummer is that the ceiling of the car is low, so the "parent handle" at the back is not terribly useful. I am rather short and it's still not at a comfortable height for me; my 6'1" husband has to bend over to push the car around. So unfortunately it can't comfortably be used in lieu of a stroller for long walks. However a few blocks to the mailbox is certainly manageable.

We love the cozy coupe!

The directions were picture only...no words. At times the picture and part were obviously wrong but you can figure it out. At other times, they were almost impossible to understand until you view pictures down the page. It would help if you were an octopus with a lot of imagination. The parts do not have the holes drilled for the screws and the holes in the wheels are just partially drilled. A note for installing the roof...you can not put the front uprights in without first lubricating with some liquid soap and then it was very hard to handle car and install...this also goes for the rear parts. All in all it will take a lot more time than you think to put this together. I am a retired carpenter/building maintenance man and I am quite handy as the saying goes but it was a horrible experience to say the least. Once built the kids love it and it appears to be something that will last a long time.

I got this car when my son was eight months old because it had a bottom to it and he sat up pretty good in it. He would not get out of this car, he would spend over an hour in it with me pushing him around it. He would steer the wheel, honk the horn. My son is 20 months old now and this is still his favorite toy. He will push it around with his monkey stuffed animal and sit in it while eatting snacks. It is the best 55 bucks I ever spent. I love taking him for small walks in it too.
It is smaller than I remember mine bringing, which was over 17 years ago. But it is has a safety lock and seems to be built better. It can tip over if pushed too fast so be careful and push it slow.

The new improved 30th edition is slightly smaller compared to our family friends older one. The dimensions online appears to confirm this. We only bring this point up because out daughter is very tall, and seems cramped inside the new smaller seat, and thus it will shorten the light span of the product use. She still can not get enough of the toy car and does not mind, sure wish we got one sooner.

Ditto on the assembly, tip for the front yellow pillars, everyone tries to take it easy but as you will find out, have to use brute force as the instructions indicate and they just pop in. And as far as the "long" screws, I immediately broke out my electric screw gun, with an additional long bit holder took 2 seconds, if you have the mean I highly recommend use a power screw gun.

I just bought an older version of the classic cozy coupe. My son loves it, and constantly wants to go sit in his car. Now that grocery stores are offering "car" grocery arts, he is obsessed with any plastic ride in car. I wasn't sure if owning one would improve or worsen this obsession, but leaving the car carts at the grocery store has become easier since I am able to tell him he can sit in his car at home. As for the "new" version of the cozy coupe, the big eyes kind of creep me out, I'm not sure that I would buy this myself. However, I'm sure that kids don't care and just want to get in and out the door, turn the steering wheel, and honk the horn. Little Tikes toys as a whole are fairly undestructible, so your car will have resale beyond your kids. Look for one used like I did and save some cash!

I want to start by saying that my son (18 months) absolutely LOVES this car!!! From the moment he saw me assemble it, he continue repeating "bye-bye, go, car." Which meant, let's go bye-bye on the car! Yes, assembly was a pain in the butt. Definitely not for someone who's never assembled anything before. The company provides video step-by-step assembly instructions on their website and that's what I used to put it together. I have to say I have encountered more difficult tasks than this one. There was only one moment where I needed to admit on needing help from my husband, which was for the installation of the front pillars. The guy on the video makes it look so easy, yet both of us had a very hard time putting these where they went. Other than that, I had little trouble putting this thing together, even without the use of a drill. Yes, my hands hurt afterward, but seeing the wonderful look on my boy's face after it was all put together and witnessing how much fun he's having with it was well worth the pain. I COMPLETELY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!

I'm 5'-7" and to my suprise the handle is very comfortable for me to push. Then we take out the floor when his brother uses it.
My husband is handy and he said that it was really easy to put together. However you need some strength to put the yellow posts into the red base. The "kit" came with all the pieces.
It's high in quality and at a great price.
I got it because I saw it in my 3 year old's preschool. The kids have a lot of fun in it. It takes a lot of abuse and it's been there for years witout damage. The step 2 ride-ons didn't seem to be as durable, beacuse those have missing wheels, broken doors, and faded in color.

30.) Putting it together stinks - but seeing your kid smile playing this toy is worth it
Reviewed by: KYP Lakewood, CO United States

Putting it together - NIGHTMARE - no doubt about it. There are a ton of pieces - there aren't precut holes for the plastic parts so that's ANNOYING - and it took almost an hour to put it together. You HAVE to follow the directions in detail or it will get you frustrated. Many steps for something that looks so simple.

Beyond that - the toy is awesome. My son LOVES opening the door, getting inside it, shutting and door and wait for us to push him around. It's the one toy that he runs to when he gets home. He's 1 and really enjoys playing with it. Soon we'll take the bottom plate out so he can "push" himself - very Fred Flintstone.

It's a simple toy - no thrills, the horn is a squeeky horn, the key toys a little - the gas cap opens, the steering wheel moves side to side (but doesn't actually steer) - beyond that, the rest are stickers and for show more than educational.

What I wish - it had a real rear view mirror - I think that would be really cool and would entertain my little one. The sticker mirror is very 1 dimensional - or maybe a car freshener. Wish it was a bit heavier - my son likes to "hang" over the door - and almost tips it over. It's surprisingly light.

FOR THE ADULTS: If you're over 5'4" good luck pushing this, I'm 5'3" and feel like it's the perfect height to push w/o straining my back. For my 5'10" husband - not as much fun. There are 2 cup holders in the back - very useful to store bottles. There isn't very ANY storage or hooks to hang my diaper bag in case we do take it out and about to a park or something. If it's solely for home use - then it's not a big deal.

I decided to put this together by myself with the "help" of my 2 year old and I didn't think it was overly complicated. The only downfall was the yellow rooftop parts which are supposed to snap in. I saved those for my husband because you really have to use some force to snap them in. One of the rooftop parts was missing (we had 2 left side pieces and no right side piece). I think you run that risk with any toy and we have experienced missing parts with Step2 also. Called customer service and they are supposed to be sending the right part. Not a huge deal, but had we saved this for Christmas which was the original plan we would have assembled Christmas Eve and Santa would have an incomplete car under the tree. That would have been a serious disappointment. Lesson learned, always assemble early.

Before assembling the Cozy Coupe, please make sure to have a small jar of Vaseline petroleum jelly on hand. The most difficult part of assembling the coupe is inserting the front roof supports. I read this on a previous posting which save me a lot of time and frustration.

I purchased this for my one year old niece. The instructions for assembly could be more clear as there are no words, just pictures. It took me about about an hour and a half to assemble everything. Minor tools are needed like a hammer and screwdriver. I highly suggest a power drill for assembly as it'll make life a lot easier. Overall I'm displeased with the quality of the plastics and how the pieces fit together. I'm a mechanical engineer and design complex plastic assemblies. The way some parts of this cozy coupe fit together are not great, but they get the job done. I also suggest a second hand for assembly; there are some areas where you just need two hands to hold something together while another person screws or bangs something into place.

My niece loves her cozy coupe. She gets into and out of it all the time and likes pushing it too. I specifically chose this model because it has a small plastic "shelf" that fits in under the steering wheel for kids that too short to reach the ground. This way, instead of my niece's legs dragging on the ground and not being able to pedal herself around, the shelf contains her legs and the adults can push her around. When she gets bigger we can remove the shelf and she can pedal herself, a la Frintstones.

My husband had to come try to snap some of the pieces into place and very nearly couldn't (no, he's not a wuss). There are often no holes in the plastic where the screws go, and the screws in the back that hold the roof supports down are nearly impossible to get in. This car is super cute and my one-and-a-half-year-old son absolutely LOVES it. Be forewarned this car takes a while to put together: it literally took me about 2 hours from start to finish. Most of the assembly was not too troublesome; the most problematic parts to put in were the front yellow bars. They were extremely difficult to anchor in. I am guessing I attempted at least a dozen or so times on each side and I had to use brute strength to get them in. It was very frustrating! There are some screws involved and the last 2 were very hard to get in. They are in an area which provided little room to work with a screwdriver. Also, the instructions are purely illustrations--no text. So that was a bit challenging at times. But my son was so thrilled to see he had a car of his own and he was so happy to "drive" around in it (while I was putting it together and once it was finally done), it was well worth the much longer than anticipated assembly time. It was a pretty simple thing to do and the only problems that we had were getting pieces to fit properly such as the roof supports. My husband did say that it would have been helpful had the front axles been marked with an R and L since we did do it wrong the first time we tried. Otherwise we didn't have any problems at all with watching the video. If you try to get ahead of yourself by not following step by step it would be easy to make mistakes. Most importantly he loves to push the car around and get in and pretend to drive. He really enjoys getting pushed around in it too. Hasn't tried moving it himself yet. I see I'm not the only one who had a hard time assembling this thing! My daughter couldn't wait for me to get it out of the box and assemble it the second it arrived. So, I pulled it out of the box and very quickly figured out it was going to take a lot of time and concentration to get the stupid thing put together. I had to make my daughter go down for her nap and continue working on it. It took me two solid hours to put together! The instructions are very poorly illustrated and difficult to understand. More than once, I thought I'd assembled the wheels incorrectly and tried to remedy the issue by taking them apart. I quickly discovered that once you hammer the bolt on that holds the wheels together, they don't come off . . . even with a sledgehammer, crowbar, whatever! So, that speaks to the durability. It definitely held up to my efforts at assembly without so much as a scratch! That said, make sure you understand the instructions and are 100% sure you are doing it correctly before you proceed. Also, make sure you follow the instructions exactly in order, even if you think your way makes more sense (such as putting the steering wheel on before attaching the roof). You will wind up having to take apart what you did before in order to assemble some other aspect of the car. Also, while the roof supports were difficult to get into their slots, I found the most difficult part of assembling the car to be screwing the screws into their allotted indentations. That's right. You don't even get pre-drilled holes to screw the screws into. Just a slight indentation in the plastic indicating that's where it's supposed to go. It takes quite a bit of elbow grease to get those screws in. I managed to eventually get the top screws in. My hand ached like crazy, I had banged up knuckles from the effort, and one of the screws went in a bit cockeyed, but at least they were in! The bottom screws were a different story. You have to go in from inside the cup holders. With the length of the screws and the length of the screw driver, it is impossible to get the screws in straight or provide enough leverage/pressure to actually puncture the plastic and get the screw in there. I finally had to give up and just wait a couple of days until my husband could do it. In the meantime, my daughter drove around with the screws just hanging out in the cup holder and the back roof supports frequently pulling out of their slots.

Even with the pain of assembly, and the quite obvious "mistakes" where the car looks a little funny due to my imperfect assembly (the best I could do!), my daughter is absolutely enamored with her new toy. It has made the biggest hit by far that any toy has ever made in her two years of life. I have had a hard time getting her to come out of the thing! She's been sitting in it to watch movies, driving it all over the house, eating in it, attempting to take it on walks, and even insisted on sleeping with it right beside her the first night she had it. It's worth all the hard work to see her enjoying the toy so much. But I would definitely not give it anything more than three stars after the nightmare my husband and I went through in trying to put the thing together!

My son just received this toy for his 1st birthday. It's great because it's the 30th anniversary car and both my husband and I had our own cars as children, so it's nice to see it making its way from generation to generation.

But what really counts against it is its HORRENDOUS assembly instructions and procedure. My husband, who is really good at assembling items, spent 3 hours on this "Crazy" Coupe. First, the instructions weren't even in English -- they were just pictures. Normally that would be fine except that there were some details that were lacking. We ended up consequently referencing a YouTube video. I'm glad that option exists, but seriously? Why can't someone at Little Tikes just spend an hour writing up easy-to-read instructions rather than making people guess what they are illustrating? It's ridiculous.

First there was the part by the door that indicated that we had to "screw a hole here" and then we realized that there wasn't an existing hole at all (we ended up having to puncture a hole with a drill). Then there was the eyeball attachment that never quite "closed" properly (to this day); a little kid can easily stick his finger in there and touch the internals. Even an adult can, come to think of it.

I love this toy, but in 30 years, you'd think they'd perfect the assembly instructions. Two of us college-educated parents clearly are asking too much!

Like many of the others here, I felt completely overwhelmed by the extremely horrific directions. I got all the way to the roof..with all the strange screws and having to hammer the plastic into place while holding it with all 5 of my hands~ After trying to put it together for 3 days(!) and asking handyman-type neighbors for their help, and much to my patient toddler's disappointment, I'm going to take this back to the store where I got it and find him something less typically American: cheap, plastic crap made in China.

I just spent the last 90 minutes putting this product together. Let me pause and say that I have a Mechanical Engineering degree and I normally do not have any problems assembling any products. But this product simply has the worst design that I've ever seen. The parts do not fit together (you really have to brute force your way in, especially the five yellow pieces that combine to be the top. Also, I actually have to buy this item TWICE because the first package didn't come with one of the shafts--does any one even sanity check the content of the box before packaging!? From reading others' reviews, this is not uncommon either, people have complained missing screws, steering wheels, wheels, etc. WTF!?

This is supposed to be the "Best Selling car in the US" and have been so for 30 years, and it just amazes me how poorly the quality/design/manufacturing the product is. If another company actually steals the concept and makes a half-way decent car, they would've crushed the sales of the Cozy (Crazy) Coupe. Also the wheels are secured by a washer that you tight-fit with a hammer--which I am not sure is the best way to design a durable wheel assembly, I do have concersn that one day the wheel will fall off but we shall see.

Bad design aside, once the car is put together, the concept is actually quite fun and I can't wait for my son to try it out tomorrow morning Flintstone style!

CONCLUSION: Beware of the poor assembly and possible missing parts. Pick a cool day to assemble this (you will use tons of force and energy, it's a great workout). (I would recommend getting an electric drill for the screws as well)

I can't speak to the assembly of the car (which my in-laws did), but here's my review of the car once it is put together:

Pros
- my 15 month old daughter likes it
- the roof, which provides sun protection, is a nice feature

Cons
- it is deafeningly loud on our neighborhood's concrete sidewalks, which makes it impossible to talk to your child when he or she is riding in the car
- the handle is too low to grip comfortably
- when my daughter tries to propel herself, her feet hit the front wheels
- the wheels zig zag all over the place, so pushing the car requires both hands (and makes it impossible, say, to walk your dog at the same time you are pushing the car)
- my daughter's sippy cups do not fit in the cupholders
- the inside space is small
- it is not easy to put the running board back into the car after you have taken it out

Bottom line: I suppose it is an okay toy for a small child to ride around the house or the driveway, but it is not a good replacement for a stroller or a wagon for walks around the neighborhood.

Okay, so I have to give it an extra star only because the kids like the toy but never, ever again will I get a toy like this and put it together. It literally took almost 2 1/2 hours to put this nightmare together. The kids better play with it for hours and hours after that. It is hard to put together with poor construction. There aren't even any holes for the screws to go into, you have to pop them through the cheap plastic.

NEVER. AGAIN.

Bought for my 2 year old son for his birthday. First of all, this one is significantly smaller than the older ones. They used to be much bigger than this one. The assembly was not the most difficult to understand but it was a workout connecting the pillars to the base of the car. Even with all my dissatisfaction, my son still loves it.

My parents bought this for my son, who admittedly does love it. But the thing is a nightmare to put together (especially the six red caps that go over the exposed metal rods). And has been pointed out, the instructions are worthless.

And no sooner did I get it together, one of the red caps broke, leaving an exposed metal rod that he could get hurt on.

So I went online and filled out the form to get a replacement of what has to be a thirty cent item. And although this is the 30TH ANNIVERSARY COUPE that only came out THIS YEAR, I was told I'd need to provide proof of purchase to show that it was purchased this year just to get a replacement for a badly designed part that is there to ensure safety.

I'm sorely tempted to return this car, and to avoid Little Tikes products until they improve their customer service.

Edit:
My parents insisted on keeping the car, and although we found the receipt & emailed it to them per their instructions to get a replacement part, they've yet to send it. My parents still like it, but from my perspective the quality is lacking & their customer service sucks.

I just finished putting together this car for my 18 month old. It was a nightmare. It comes in 50 or more pieces, which aren't labeled or are labeled incorrectly. The instructions (30 steps) leave much to be desired. Very hard to tell which part it was referencing and there wasn't any text describing how to do anything. The whole thing only takes 10 screws, but 8 of those don't have predrilled holes and none of them were in an easy place to install. I think my son will love it, but due to the assembly process I'd only reccommend it to my most hated enemies. No wonder no one buys American if this is the quality you're going to get.

I suppose that customers who are actually able to assemble this toy must really have a great feeling of accomplishment. The video instructions make it look easy. But try following the video instructions, and you'll see how deceptive they are. The instructions are clear enough, but it's just impossible for any adult in my household to execute the steps. (For instance, the pillars just won't fit into the body of the vehicle, despite 180 pounds of weight being applied to them.) For those who desire an impossible challenge, this is for you!

There is nothing that quite compares to the laughter of a child... especially when that child is laughing AT you, while you slave away for more than 2 hours trying to get this impossible beast of a toy put together. Everyone who has complained about the instructions being worthless has been correct. I think a list is in order here:
1. Pieces not labeled
2. Damn near impossible to assemble. Getting the yellow parts into the car was practically a miracle... I'm still not sure how I managed it.
3. There are exposed screws in the 'cup holder'
4. There is no seat belt.
5. The door lock has an exposed screw...and it doesn't do much to lock the door.
6. The handle is pretty useless as a handle.
7. This car is not meant for rough desert terrain... if you live close to a basketball or tennis court, I can see the car functioning well for you, but I'm not sure how steering will work on dirt.
8. Those little wheels aren't going to last on dirt.

Two things that were specific to the car I purchased -
1. the eyes were broken
2. The 'little tikes' logo on the back yellow things was upside down. There is only one way to assemble these parts...

So why is this beast not a pile of melted goo in my front yard?! My kid loves it. He REALLY loves it.
