My 9 month old son had been pulling up and cruising along the couch for some time & we thought he'd be thrilled with a toy he could push and walk with. When this cart arrived, I could barely get it together fast enough, he was so excited with it visually! The crocodiles are adorable, they don't clack loudly at all. The cart is designed so it won't tip backwards very easily, so my son can pull up on it to walk. He gets just the right speed for his age on our carpet, not too fast. Very bright and such a nice alternative to the plastic junk you see. Something you'd want to hold onto for awhile. And the price is great at $26. here on amazon.

We fell in love with this push toy at the store after our little guy, who at the time was only 7 months, started pushing this around. We have watched him tackle crawling and standing up really early so he's been an old pro for a couple months at those things and we were looking for a good push walker. This is by far the most sturdy one we tested. It works great on our carpet and on our hardwood. It doesn't get going too fast out from under him yet and it does have little things for him to spin if he's sitting on the ground. Eventually we'll get him a ride on push toy but this is a great start. Everyone comments on it when they are over about how cute looking and durable it is.

What's more fun than watching a baby learn to take his first steps on his own? Watching him laugh and take delight along his path with some truly chompy friends... he even helped assemble the two bolts to install the handle. Very gratifying for everyone. His first walking toy, he is now ambling about 8 to 10 steps without assistance. Thanks, again, Melissa & Doug for a very imaginative, original, NON-TOXIC, NON-PLASTIC and affordable toy that will endure for nostalgia and purpose. Fat Brain Toys had excellent shipping, service, and receipt documentation. Thanks to all.

We bought this for my son's 1st birthday and he LOVES it! It's adorable, the colors are bright, and it seems to be well made. He isn't walking on his own yet, so he loves being able to hold onto this while walking around the house. Even when he doesn't feel like standing up he will push it on his knees. The alligators are so cute and he sometimes just sits in front of it and plays with them. I was concerned about how fast it would push (we have another walker that gets away from him), but even on our hardwood floors it seems ok. You do have to be careful though because it can tip backwards, but we just say "uh oh" and he gets back up. I just make sure that I'm within arms reach when he is walking with it.

I first saw this toy being enthusiastically pushed around by a small toddler at a warehouse art show and I knew I had to get one for my own. It's colorful, amusing, and just slightly menacing (in a playful way.)

The one comment I would have is that it's probably most useful at the early end of the recommended age range, when the child is walking, but needs a little extra confidence.

My one year-old loves this toy. It took her a few tries to figure out how to change directions, but now that she has that down, she loves it. I especially like that the wheels have a rubber strip on them that add some traction-some of the other push toys she has have a tendency to roll too quickly and slip out from under her-this one is a little more stable for her in that regard.

I first saw this toy in an upscale toy store for $[...], and would've bought it then-but lucky for me the last one they had was the floor model and the paint was chipped off. So I waited and found it here on Amazon for MUCH less! I can't even tell you how happy I was!
My 10 month old son absolutely LOVES this walker! He has 3 others (a Tonka, a Fisher-Price Hippo and another Fisher Price Brilliant Beginnings) but this is his fave! I think the chomping gators is what does it. When he uses it, we call it "walking his alligators"! It's simply adorable! We're buying one for our friends when their baby is old enough. (we're keeping ours, it's too cute!)
The gators chomping isn't loud at all, the mouths are padded with felt so it's not at all obnoxious. Our living room carpet is just a little too plush for it to work there, but it works fine in his bedroom and our basement. He is walking so much more now that he has this walker. I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone looking for a great push-walker!

My little girl loves this push toy! She becomes so elated when she pushes it, she can hardly contain herself... pure entertainment! Plus, it is teaching her how to walk. Recommended if you have hard floors (it takes extra effort on certain carpets or rugs). She also received a plastic push toy that is too light and slips all over the hardwoods, so we don't use it. The Chomp & Clack Alligator is sturdy and, with a little practice, is easy for a little one to maneuver. In a world of cheap, plastic toys, this is a great find.

I'm a little surprised to read the negative experiences others had with this product since we've been very pleased with our purchase.

My 22 mo. old loves to chase his two older brothers with his alligators and have even found the older two taking it out for a stroll on occasion. Between the three boys it's taken quite a bit of rough play (was tossed down a flight of stairs even), so I'm confident when I say at least this one was constructed very well. It isn't showing any signs of wear.

It does what it says (chomps and clacks) and despite the noise we don't mind how much the kids play with it. I highly recommend this toy.

I bought this for my son as a Christmas gift because he was starting to crawl in early November and I thought he would be ready for it. I ended up opening it at the end of November, since he was already pulling up on the furniture and cruising.

I am impressed with the quality of this item, I read the other reviews that complained of chipping wood and breaking handles, but my push toy is very solid, it's really sturdy and well made and I'm not at all concerned about it being unsafe. The toy is heavy enough he can pull up on it without it tipping over. He is able to push it on our carpeted living room floor, or on the tile in the kitchen without difficulty. He loves the beads on the handle as well as the alligators, and I think it will be a toy he can enjoy even after he starts walking on his own.

Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. I bought it because I didn't want to buy a cheap plastic push toy, but also didn't want to spend a ton of money. This item delivered and I would recommend it. Cute, sturdy and fun.

It came in two parts; the base and the handle bar. I put the handle in the ready holes in the base, put in the screws and it was ready to roll. My niece opened it around other kids and they all wanted to push it around. I really liked the small strips of buffering rubber around each tire. The clacking was loud enough to amuse her, but not so loud as to disturb anyone in the house. I like that the base was rectangular, keeping it stable while little feet walked behind and tiny hands clung to the bar while pushing it across the floor. I checked the wood and don't see how it could splinter. The wood felt sturdy, smoothly sanded and buffed, so not sure how anyone else experienced that. I am extremely happy with this purchase! He had a frog-themed birthday party, so this frog was a hit. The legs move up and down as you pull it, which makes it interesting to watch and so cute. The quality is pretty good. The rubber on the wheels isn't consistent all the way around, so some of the wood touches the ground. The paint is wearing off in those places. Other than that, it is a great toy. One of the back wheels fell off at one point but a little glue and an overnight set and it was as good as new. Now that our son is 3 - he still likes to chase us with it and refuses to let it be put away. The back wooden bar on it is carpet level and almost works as a static vacuum - it collects dog hair and dust as it zooms over the carpet no matter how recently we've cleaned. Although he couldn't figure out how to turn it around on his own, he loved racing from one end of the house to the other. Now, a year and a half later, he has passed it on to my 1 year old. Sure it has suffered a bit in a year and a half of heavy use (he still played with it well after he walking on his own), but nothing a little wood glue can't fix. Initially I had purchased a Radio Flyer push wagon for my son to use (a LOT more expensive), but it turns out he likes the alligators MUCH more. It's nice and stable and it doesn't move too fast the way some of the lightweight plastic walkers do. The only drawback it that it is hard to turn with it, but that seems to be true of all the heavier/more stable walker toys I've found and I'll trade manueverability for safety and stability any day.

Before we received this for his birthday a few months ago, he was enjoying pushing the laundry basket around the house which is obviously much lighter and easier to turn than this heavy thing. That's the biggest issue my son has with it: he can't turn it around and go the other way. He'll push it across the hardwood floor, reach the wall and then complain because he can't turn it. It's also very loud, so be aware that you may get a headache if your kid really like this toy. He only mildly cares for the butterflies that flip around on the front bar and when he gets bored with it he likes to grab and pull on the alligators themselves. Wow, what a bummer. We have lots of Melissa and Doug toys, and I've always been very happy with their quality and durability. This one however, is shameful! My first clue should have been as I was taking it out of the box, the top layer of cheap wood splintered off. Had I bought it in a store, I'd have taken it right back. This was a birthday present for our daughter though, and bought online, so I thought "Well, it's just one strip of wood." Our child loved this toy right away...that being said, within the first week the entire area of blue wood began splintering off. All over the floor. Not only could my daughter have choked on a piece, but she could have scraped or cut herself, etc.
Cheap craftsmanship aside, my daughter has lost her balance and toppled over the top bar twice, and hit her head on the wooden alligators. Now, the toy didn't cause her to lose her balance, but considering this is a toy made for toddlers, and toddlers tend to topple, wouldn't they have thought of the possible injuries?
Overall, an INCREDIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT and I'm sorry to say that it's made me a little wary of Melissa and Doug toys in general.

The big issue, and the reason why I have put it away, is that he was investigating the alligators and got his finger completely stuck in the place where the mouth of one of the aligators fits into the blue base. I am still not sure how he did it. I was unable to get it out and he was screaming. My husband ran to help and finally just yanked it out. It was very traumatic. I was happy with this until the top bar came loose just a few days after we bought it! My 20 month old fell forward and landed with his neck on one of the vertical parts. It was terrible, and all because their glue didn't hold. If you buy this, please screw the top bar in place so this doesn't happen to you. This is not the only Melissa and Doug toy we have had glue issues with. Not recommended.

61.) Surprisingly NOT as good as I thought!

I love Melissa and Doug toys, so when I saw this push toy I thought it was very cute. However, I only had the toy about three days and both back wheels popped off! We barely even used it. So unfortunately I would not recommend this toy. I may have just gotten a random bad model, but it was not worth the money I paid for.

62.) Shoddily Made

First of all, the holes for the handle part did not line up with the holes in the main part it's supposed to be attached to. Secondly it fell apart like a house of cards with just a little toddler handling by my son: a wheel came off and a side part was split. Thirdly, there are what look like glue drippings on the wheels. Very disappointing.

63.) Poor Quality, disappointing

Within two days of receipt the glued seams began separating. The wheels, which were warped from day one, stopped rolling and just slid accross the floor. Consequently the alligators stopped chomping and clacking. Trying to put this thing back together to a point where it functions correctly takes more time than it is worth. Our 22 month old has moved on and enjoys pushing his big plastic baseball bat around the house more than playing with this heavy wooden dust collector.

64.) A Way to Save $25 if You Want to Keep Your Rugs

I bought this for my daughter when she was starting to walk, and it is a nice-looking thing; wooden and retro and the alligators are very cute and all that. However, I just don't see how this can be any good unless you live in, like, The Overlook Hotel or some big modern loft with smoothly carpeted or concrete floors. Because this thing just does not work in a little Craftsman bungalow with wonky hardwoods covered in oriental rugs. It gets caught on everything (especially fringes) and causes baby much frustration with steering because of the wheels, you see. I've found that my daughter (who walks well on her own now) much prefers to push around a $5 plastic laundry basket which has the added bonus of providing a place for her to ride when I push her.

65.) Please be careful with this toy!

i never put reviews on these things but my son was 13months old & went to push this toy, slipped & his face hit the handle........busted his lip & it required 5 stitches by a plastic surgeon. this toy is dangerous in my opinion. we threw it out immediately.
